Orca Inn Bed & Breakfast offers you a unique opportunity to experience the flavour of an authentic Newfoundland fishing village, just 15 minutes from downtown St.John's and Cape Spear. Other attractions and activities such as bird and whale watching, icebergs, sea kayaking, caribou herds, historical and archeological sites and ocean front hiking are available at our doorstep or within easy reach.
Our home is comfortable, spacious, bright and smoke free. The three bedrooms, all ensuite, have either twin or double beds. The house was built in 1933 by the owner's grandfather and served as the Anglican rectory until 1970.
A spacious deck provides opportunities (weather permitting) for enjoying our full breakfast, views of the village and harbour or just resting and relaxing after a full active day.
Petty Harbour was probably used as a seasonal base for the Basque cod fishery as early as1500. At its peak in 1857 it supported 747 inhabitants of English and Irish descent. Today Petty Harbour is the home of a diversified fishery with crab, lobster, lumpfish and cod being the main catch. It is also the site of Newfoundland's first hydro-electric power station built in 1898 to provide power for St.John's electric trams. Its proximity to St.John's and its picturesque setting make its image easily recognized.
