Non-Resident Guide Requirements New regulations have been introduce improve the protection and conservation the province's freshwater fish stocks. The regulations mean that:

1. On the Island of Newfoundland and south of 52° N Latitude in Labrador (Strait of; Isle area accessible by road):

Scheduled Waters (scheduled salmon rivers):

Non-residents shall not fish on scheduled waters unless accompanied licenced guide or a direct relative who resident of the province. Unscheduled Waters (lakes, ponds, trout, streams):

Within 800 metres of a provincial highway non-residents may fish unaccompanied on unscheduled waters. Beyond 800 metres a provincial highway, non-residents may fish unless accompanied by a licenced guide a direct relative who is a resident of the province

2. In Labrador, north of the 52° N Latitude:

Within 800 metres of a provincial high non-residents may fish unaccompanied on inland waters. Beyond 800 metres of a provincial highway, non-residents may not fish for species of fish in any inland waters with engaging the services of an outfitter or being accompanied by a direct relative who is a resident of the province. However, non-residents who are the guests of a licenced tourist establishment (hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, country inn etc.) may fish on any inland waters provide they utilize the services of a licenced guide; they not fish within 2 kilometres of an existing outfitting establishment; and they return to licenced tourist establishment each night.

A non-resident who is the guest of a private (non-commercial) club, private cottage, VIP camp or military camp may fish the waters adjacent to such camps if accompanied by a licenced guide or a direct relative who is a resident of the province and no fee is paid for the service.

Please note that in Labrador, north the 52°N Latitude, there are no scheduled salmon rivers that are crossed by a provincial highway designated by a route number.

If a guide is required, when two or more non-residents fish together the number of guides shall not be less than one guide for each two non-resident anglers. If you book through an outfitter, licenced guides are provided as part of their package. A list of licenced guides may be obtained at Wildlife Division Regional Offices and Visitor Information Centres.

LICENSED GUIDES
Guides are licenced annually by the provincial Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods. Names and addresses of local licenced guides are available from the nearest Regional Wildlife Division office or may sometimes be obtained at various Visitor Information Centres across the province.
