Fishing Information & Regulations

Licences

A salmon licence is required by all anglers to fish on scheduled salmon waters. Non-residents who retain brook trout while fishing a scheduled salmon river/stream are required to be in possession of a valid non-resident trout licence. In addition, non-residents who fish for Brook Trout, Arctic Char, Northern Pike and Ouananiche (landlocked salmon) on both scheduled and unscheduled waters (lakes, ponds or trout streams) are required to hold a non-resident licence. Inland fishing licences for salmon can be obtained from most retail outlets such as hardware stores, sporting goods stores, service stations, department stores, etc., located throughout the province, or from your outfitter. It should be noted, however, that not all such outlets have licences for sale.

Licence Fees are subject to a 15 Harmonized Sales Tax Senior Citizens Angling licences are no longer available free of charge to persons aged 65 and older. Senior Citizens are now required to purchase licences at the same fees as other anglers. Fishing in National Parks Special licences are required to fish inland waters within the boundaries of National Parks. These may be obtained from park administrative offices. Anglers should check with park officials regarding bag limits and other fishing regulations that apply within National Parks.

Fishing regulations may change on short notice. However, a new three-year management plan for salmon (see below) provides some stability until 2001. Visitors should obtain current status of possible changes to regulations prior to embarking on angling or hunting trips by contacting the appropriate agency The Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation also maintains a toll free information number at .
