Fishing Information & Regulations

Points to Remember

1. A salmon licence is required by all anglers to fish in scheduled salmon rivers.

2. Non-residents require a salmon licence to fish on scheduled salmon waters. Non-residents who intend to fish only unscheduled waters (lakes, ponds, trout streams) are required to hold only a non- resident trout fishing licence.

3. Licence holders must carry their licences on their persons during fishing trips.

4. Family fishing licences may be issued to the husband/wife/guardian of a family, and may include any children up to and including those 17 years of age. The bag limit of a family licence is the same as that of an individual licence.

5. Any person in a family who is 18 years of age or older must buy a licence for him/herself and such person(s) may not participate in the family licence.

6. A child 17 years of age or under may purchase his/her own licence, but children under 14 years shall not fish in any scheduled river unless accompanied by a person 17 years of age or older.

7. Fish in any inland waters may not be taken by any means other than angling using rod, hook and line. 8. Only an artificial fly may be used when angling in scheduled salmon rivers – only one fly at a time may be used.

9. Fish in inland waters may not be jigged. Accidentally foul hooked fish must be released.

10. Sport fish taken by angling may not be retained alive.

11. Salmon fry, parr and smolt may not be taken at any time.

12. Salmon of less than 30 cm (12 in) in length, and ouananiche and rainbow trout of less than 20 cm (8 in) in length may not be taken. If accidentally caught, such fish must be released.

13. No person shall impede or hinder the passage of fish through any fishway or canal.

14. Fishing is not permitted within 22 m (25 yds) downstream from the lower entrance of any fishway, canal, obstacle or leap (falls).

15. No person shall wilfully disturb or molest any fish or spawn on scheduled salmon rivers.

16. Fishing is permitted only between one (1) hour before sunrise and one (1) hour after sunset on scheduled salmon rivers.
